April Pierrot MSTAT was senior tutor of Alexander Technique at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art from 1993 to 2010, latterly as Co-ordinator of Alexander Training. Since 2011 she has been in charge of the Alexander training at The Lir, The National Academy of Dramatic Art at Trinity in Dublin. Originally trained as a journalist at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, she first heard about the Alexander Technique in the 1980’s whilst working at the BBC World Service in World Service News. Subsequent lessons led to a very real interest in the physical benefits of the Technique. She completed the 3 year training course at the Centre for Alexander Technique School in Fulham, studying under Peter and Eleanor Ribeaux. She qualified as a full member of STAT in 1993.
April has worked extensively with young people, both at RADA and in the specialist music department at St. Paul’s Girls School. She has a long standing interest in the body, in bodywork, bodywork training and all of the somatic disciplines. She is a qualified Yoga teacher and Shiatsu practitioner, graduating from the Irish School of Shiatsu in 2001. Since 2010 she has been working with the natural childbirth expert, Dr. Gowri Motha, developing a series of gentle exercises based on Alexander Technique aimed at facilitating labour.
April runs a private practice in London and Dublin, where she sees students of all ages and with a variety of needs. As well as her work with young actors and musicians, she enjoys helping those who present with difficulties associated with ageing and job-related conditions. She has worked with people from all walks of life, including barristers, doctors new mothers, plasterers and professional golfers.
